The basics

All need to know about the visa that will take you to the UK

Whether you’ll be working as a nurse, carer or in another role, you will need a Skilled Worker Visa.

  • To get your visa, you will need a sponsor, your employer.

  • Your visa lasts for up to 5 years.

  • You must work full time for your sponsor.

  • Alongside you full time job you can study and volunteer.

  • You may be able to work additional hours for another employer in the same sector.

  • You can leave the UK to go on holiday or visit family and friends back home.

  • You can bring your dependants to the UK.

Eligibility

To apply for a Skilled Worker Visa you must:

  • have a valid passport.

  • have never been refused entry to the UK

  • have a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS)

  • be able to show you do not have a criminal record

  • have experience and qualifications for your job in the UK

  • have taken a UKVI approved English test

  • be able to travel to the UK within 3 months of getting your visa

Making your application

To apply for your visa, you must have:

  • Your current passport with at least 2 blank pages.

  • A recent colour photo.

  • Results of your approved English test.

  • Police check.

  • The visa fee.

    You may also need:

  • TB Certificate

  • Bank statement

    Within ten days of arriving in the UK, you will collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).
